What a terrible story but I suspect it's not unusual unfortunately. We have similar policies in schools in Australia and I have a teenage daughter. My concerns for her bodily autonomy and dignity far outweighs the value of conforming to an arbitrary rule. She knows that if she needs to walk out of the classroom at any time to attend to her personal needs that she shouldn't hesitate and let me deal with the fallout which I would gladly do.
